Some Time Outside

Working in an office, going to school and living in a city can get a little boring. It is sad sometimes to look out the window and there are only buildings as far as the eye can see. There is not even one cow within 10 miles. Aimee misses this sometimes and always talks about how much she wishes she were near the farm so she could go and feed the calves, especially when it is raining and there are newborns. So we decided that we needed to get out of the city and find some open space. So we went to the Mananas Battlefield (this is the same battle that is also called the battle of bull run). The weather was beautiful and we hiked around the whole battlefield. The trail we went on was six miles long and by the end we were really tired out.

There were cannon set up were they would have been when the battle was going on and there were signs all along the trail telling about all the troop movements and entries from soldiers diaries. Towards the end of the trail there was a "stone bridge" we had to hike an extra mile out the way to see it but it was really cool. It was an important strategic point for the armies to control because it whoever controlled it during the battle could keep dry when crossing the river and the other side had to wade through.

We took a few pictures since the bridge was really cool and the leaves were all turning colors.

There trail we walked on was really cool with all the leaves and trees - but imagine having enemy soldier in the trees shooting at you!Here we are by the cannons - they would be pretty scary to be fighting against in battle, the soldiers would load them with lots of little cannon balls about the size of a marble and when they fired the shot would spread out like a shotgun hitting people as far away as a half mile!
