A Zoo Filled Day

This weekend we decided to visit the zoo. We had a lot of fun we saw parts of it that we had never been to before and had a good relaxing day since I just started back at school on Wednesday. Aimee has had a couple teacher orientation meetings and the students don't start coming for another week (they don't come until after labor day). Her school gave her a normal raise (teachers get a small raise each year that they teach) and they gave her a fancy new laptop. I only weights about 2 lbs. and it is a tablet PC, that means that it has a screen that you can write on and it turns your hand writing into text. It is really nice; she likes it.

I thought I would share some of the pictures with all of you including captions so that you can tell what is in the picture. (If you need more detail you can click on any picture and they will get bigger.)

Here is the best looking couple at the zoo. Seriously some of the people were very strange looking. The zoo was quite busy because it was Saturday and it was a really nice day out.

This Handsome devil is having a good day. The zoo keeps a collection of farm animals including spoiled beef and Holstein heifers, 4 donkeys (named and pictured below) and a couple of goats like this one hanging out behind me.

Aimee showing off like normal.

This alligator looks really mean. Aimee didn't believe it was real but it was.

Pictured above from left to right: Eccentric Elisa, Mischievous Marianna, Stinky Samantha and Crazy Camille.

Lookin' Good! I think there is an animal in the picture too.

This Hippo eats a lot of hay. The feed it grass hay and it ate about 2 bales in about a half hour. Hippos are one of Aimee's favorite animals so she had to have her picture with him.

Here is a close up on him. He is huge - this is the first time we have ever seen him out of the water. We decided to name him fatso the hippo.

Marianna have a little decency! We called this pose the elephant moon.

The Battery Catastrophe and The Surprise Desk!

My new camera's battery ran out about a week and a half ago. It has been a wild ride trying to get a charger and rechargeable battery for it. I tried all of my own rechargeable batteries and their chargers first. Of course none of them worked, so I went in to Staples and one of their employees gave me the wrong one - he didn't really know what he was doing or talking about. When I got home and tried it, it didn't fit so I took it back the next day, and talked to someone a little more knowledgeable. It is a special kind and had to be ordered in, so we ordered it and returned the first one. It came only a couple of days ago, and I have been happily taking pictures since!!! These are just a few of my amazing shots both with perfect poses :)

As for the surprise desk... When I got home last night I knew something was fishy when dad scooted out of my room real fast and shut off the light. In the darkness I could see a very big shadow and I wasn't sure I was happy. Well, dad bought me a desk. So I can use it for 'studying.' It was very nice of him - although as you can see there's not much room right now for studying :) This desk is huge, almost as big as my bed. I moved it to the corner there this morning and it fits pretty good, although it does make my room feel a little smaller.

Oh yeah, one more bit of good news for you - Mom has started making bread again!!! It is soooo good - the loaves pictured are zucchini bread, but she also makes regular bread too. And it's not a one-time thing :) She's been doing it for almost two weeks like every other day or so :) GOOD FOOD!

Worst Day Ever!

When I think of a really bad day it goes something like this: It starts with great weather and a trip to a beautiful nearby island to explore the quaint and historic town, wander through the many parks, explore the beautiful beaches, and finish the day with a great seafood dinner. This terrible day would start out with getting lost on the way to the beach adding 20 minutes to the trip. After finding the correct route you would definitely get stuck in really bad stop and go traffic for two hours, all because of a toll bridge (2 hours in line just to pay $2.50 to go across a bridge!) When you finally get to your destination you would once again get lost on your way to the beach, and by the time you got there you would be starving and not have any food. So you would head back into town in search of something to eat, but on your way someone would pull out right in front of your car and you would get in an accident. After getting everything cleared up you would find some food and head back to the park to try to enjoy some time relaxing on the beach to wind down before heading home. When you got back to the park you would park your car grab your chairs and towels and head down the trail to the beach...and you would walk and walk and walk and not get there. At this point you would start feeling sick and decide it's time to go back to the car and go home, but you would get caught in a sudden and intense rain and thunderstorm and be soaking wet in two seconds.

Scratch the rainstorm and you would have the day that Drew and I had on Saturday. It was rather ironic that the weather was perfect and we couldn't enjoy it because of all the mishaps we had. The other really ironic thing is that we just paid off our car and when we got home the title was in our mailbox...now that our car is smashed.

In all honesty there are much worse things that could have happened to us but it really stunk!

This is the toll bridge we had to cross over the Chesapeake Bay. The day after we crossed it a semi truck drove through th e concrete barrier and off the bridge. Once again it could have been worse!

This is the island we were on. The beach we were trying to get to was behind all the condos that you can see in the background

Poor smashed up Sylvia! (That is our car's name)

And a close-up...ouch!

The National Cathedral

Today we went to the National Cathedral it is HUGE and very ornate. We had a terrible metro ride that took forever literally like an hour I was wishing the whole way that we had driven instead but the Cathedral was really cool.It is so big I literally couldn't get a picture of the whole thing.
While we were there it started raining - Isn't she stunning!
My job was to pack the food in the backpack.Best looking couple in DC!Some people can't resist showing off!
One of the stones the Cathedral was made of came from Mount Sinai. It had tons of beautiful stained glass windows.
